 Migraine Headache Clinic

Dr. Richard Kraig directs the Migraine Headache clinic at the University of Chicago, which is an active practice seeing hundreds of patients a year.  His clinical interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of migraine.  He is also an expert on cerebrovascular disease and stroke.

An active researcher, Dr. Kraig oversees the Cerebrovascular Disease and Aging Laboratories.  Increasing evidence indicates that enhanced physical, mental, and social activity can prevent neurological injury.  Dr. Kraig and his coworkers seek to understand the basic mechanisms by which brain can protect itself against neurological disease via these activities.  This knowledge can serve as a potent base for neurological preventive health strategies.

Examination of the mechanisms by which the brain naturally protects itself may lead to more selective cellular and molecular targets for the development of new treatments against brain disease.  The lab focuses on migraine, stroke, epilepsy, and cognitive decline from aging.

Knowledge from the laboratory helps Dr. Kraig individualize treatment strategies in the clinic.

Dr. Kraig is also involved in teaching medical students, graduate students, and residents.
